Background of the Study:
Social networks have emerged as a crucial factor in the growth and sustainability of small-scale businesses, particularly in regions where formal financial and institutional support is limited. In Agbor Local Government Area, Delta State, entrepreneurs rely heavily on personal and professional networks to access resources, information, and market opportunities. These networks facilitate trust-based relationships that enable business owners to navigate challenges such as limited capital, regulatory constraints, and competitive market conditions (Igbinoba, 2023). Social networks also foster the exchange of knowledge, help secure informal credit, and promote strategic partnerships, all of which are essential for business growth (Onyema, 2024). Despite their importance, the dynamics and effectiveness of these networks remain under-explored in the context of Agbor. This study aims to evaluate the role of social networks in fostering small-scale business growth by examining how these relationships contribute to entrepreneurial success, as well as identifying any limitations or challenges inherent in relying on informal support systems (Emeka, 2025).
Statement of the Problem:
Small-scale businesses in Agbor face numerous challenges, including limited access to formal financing, market competition, and regulatory barriers. While social networks provide essential support, the reliance on informal relationships can lead to issues such as unequal resource distribution and dependency (Chukwu, 2023). The effectiveness and sustainability of these networks remain uncertain, potentially hindering the growth of small enterprises. This study seeks to determine how social networks contribute to or impede business growth and to identify strategies for leveraging these networks more effectively.

This study is limited to evaluating the role of social networks in small-scale business growth in Agbor Local Government Area, Delta State, focusing on local entrepreneurial dynamics and informal support systems.
